Former 2026 gubernatorial contender -
now advocating statewide until the next term
California stands on the edge of its next chapter - and it needs leadership that is steady, disciplined, and unafraid to rebuild what's broken. My commitment is to serve the people of California with clarity, accountability, and purpose.I will continue advocating for:
Public safety rooted in justiceModern training, cultural awareness, and survivor-centered policies that protect communities without discrimination.Strong protection for sexual-assault survivorsStatewide law-enforcement training, culturally specific outreach for Asian and immigrant communities, trauma-informed response standards, and faster pathways to justice.Housing with dignity & accountabilityHigher standards for shelters, an independent oversight structure, and protections against abuse, retaliation, and unsafe conditions for unhoused individuals.Clean energy, climate resilience & environmental protectionFaster transition to renewables, wildfires prevention, clean-air initiatives, drought planning, and new green-energy jobs across California.Jobs, workforce development & economic mobilityCareer pathways in tech, healthcare, logistics, construction, and clean-energy sectors, plus support for small businesses and working families.Transportation modernizationSafer highways, expanded public transit, electric vehicle infrastructure, and smarter traffic systems to keep California moving.Healthcare & mental-health accessAffordable universal healthcare access for all Californians, stronger coverage protections, lower prescription drug costs, expanded Medi-Cal eligibility, and guaranteed healthcare benefits for aging adults - paired with statewide behavioral health services, crisis response teams, and community clinics that reach people where they are.Education that prepares the next generationA modern California education system that protects students, strengthens public schools, expands mental health support, upgrades curriculum for the AI era, and guarantees equal opportunity for both rural and urban communities.Civil rights and community protectionDefending women, children, seniors, immigrants, survivors, and people experiencing homelessness through strong policy and true accountability.
The people of California cannot afford leaders who look away when systems fail. Too many shelters fall short of the promises made to women, children, and families who rely on them. Too often, justice slips away when survivors face courts and law enforcement unprepared to understand the cultures and communities they serve. My work continues. I will advocate for the creation of an independent oversight and regulatory agency to strengthen accountability and restore dignity for those experiencing homelessness. I will work to advance deeper, survivor-centered, culturally informed training across law enforcement and the courts - because every survivor deserves justice that is real, not deferred. The road ahead is not about charity, it is about equity. It is about protection. It is about building a California for its people, where justice is delivered, dignity is honored, and no one is left unseen.
Sexual assault thrives, when silence is enforced. The greatest harm falls on children - when law enforcement, courts, and Child Protective Services look away, when families, schools, churches, and shelters bury the truth.I will continue confronting these failures head-on, across every system and institution in California.
Mandatory Accountability: No agency or leader that hides abuse will escape investigation or oversight.
Clear Reporting Pathways: Survivors - especially children - will have direct, safe ways to report assault without fear.
Stronger Prosecution: California must end the backlog of rape kits, speed up trials, and provide trauma-informed advocates for children.
System Training: Every officer, every courtroom, every shelter will use cultural and survivor-centered response.
Transparency: The public will see real, published data on cases, systemic failures, and outcomes - so the truth can never be buried again.
I am Janavi Sharma (pronounced JON-vee), a mother to a son, an advocate, and a fighter shaped by resilience and service. I came to the United States from Punjab, India in 1993 at the age of 13 after my visa was approved by U.S. immigration. I grew up in San Joaquin County, attended Lodi schools, and learned to navigate between cultural traditions and the values of the modern Western world. Life placed barriers in my path - family expectations once denied me the chance to pursue higher education - but I refused to remain voiceless. I completed my Cybersecurity Analyst certification in December 2025 and studying law so I can fight for women and children who have survived sexual assault and violence. I also carry a political legacy from Punjab, where my grandfather held office and my father returned to India and ran for one. Their path in public life shaped my understanding that leadership is not about privilege but about responsibility to community. My family's roots run deep not only Punjab but in California as well. My father's older brother, Ranjit Singh Chandowalia, served as treasurer of the historic Stockton Sikh Temple - the first Sikh temple in the United States, a cornerstone of immigrant service and resilience. That legacy of leadership and community responsibility has always guided my own path. My work now centers on advocating for justice, dignity, accountability, and systems that protect every Californian - especially women, children, and immigrant communities. My voice is shaped not by political entitlement, but by lived experience, persistence, and a commitment to stand where others have been silent.
